In case you need to catch up here are some helpful topics form the most popular search terms to tide you over:
Thrasher's King of the Road
See you Tuesday!
The KOTR is an ongoing tradition several years strong now. With teams driving from remote locations to their final destination and capturing tricks at spots along the way. The theme runs back to the good old fashioned "Get in the f*cking van and go" days of skating. No Hollywood clubs, no 50 foot crashes just skating and its most raw elements at spots sh*tty and beautiful nationwide. The teams don't know what to expect on the road and in the past have been treated to guest skaters such as Jeff Grosso coming on board at the 11th hour to annihilate the spot.
This year we get an extra dose of "how's your father" as the action gets the blog treatment. click below for each participating teams blog and don't forgot to wash your naughty bits after being around loose women. OK, enough rambling go read Thrasher.

"Horitaka, the only American apprentice, of the preeminent Japanese tattoo master Horioshi III, proudly presents a collaboration set of Nike SB shoes and apparel. Using shoes rather than skin, Horitaka continues the Japanese tattoo tradition of coded communication and tells the story of the four Guardians.
Originating in ancient China, the Japanese believe in four guardian animals, each representing a direction, season and color. The Genbu (Zoom Air Regime) is a black turtle combines with a snake. It represents the North as well as the winter season. The Seiryu (Zoom Tre), blue dragon, represents the east and spring season. Guarding the south is the Suzaku (Zoom Abington), a res phoenix-like bird. The Suzaku is aligned with the summer season. The Byakko (Classic SB), white tiger, guards the west and represents the fall season.
Four guardians, four SB shoes, four colorways, released in four consecutive seasons, the story telling tradition continues. For Fall the first release will be the Nike Classic SB. It comes along with a really nice, super detailed, satin baseball jacket."
Dave Swift, Mike Burnett, Skin Phillips and yours truly are being honored with our own limited release shoe by our friends at DVS. How rad is that? Each of us has picked a charity of his choice to donate our royalty to. My cut will be donated to Hurricane Katrina Victims in New Orleans through Mercy Corps. Our photos will be integrated into the shoe of our choice, a book and this Photo Show at Premise, 726 9th St/Suite 4 in San Diego. The photos will be up for sale and the proceeds of the sale of images will go to the Go Skateboarding Foundation.

Turns out, not so bad.
Here are some short notes on who is doing what.
Billabong: Expecting 15 percent earnings per share growth in fiscal 2008. But, the strong Aussie dollar is dragging on earnings.
Quiksilver: Analysts at Robert W Baird maintain a "neutral" on Quiksilver with a target price set to $15. Robert W Baird Analysts continue: "for spring 2008 the company’s Quiksilver and Roxy lines are focused on updating already prevailing trends. Quiksilver is launching prints and updated plaids, along with new dress silhouettes for spring 2008, the analysts say. In the junior accessories segment, handbags are likely to be an important category for spring 2008"
Zumiez: Over at Motley Fool. Alyce Lomax isn't 1000% sold on Zumiez although she feels that the long term benefits of the retail powerhouse outweigh the short term dip in stock price. Read More

Back when Vans was opening skate parks across the country a bunch of young rippers suddenly had strange new places to annihilate. Located outside of Washington D.C. was the Woodbridge Vans skate park. if you were lucky you'd see a bunch of things happening at this park. You saw ECRW galvanize a bunch of skaters across the region into a well connected army ready to build their scene up to greater heights. There was always the chance to see Dave Grohl (Scream, Nirvana, Foo Fighters) cruising through the park and stopping to talk to a few skaters. Of course the best part was watching the young bloods destroy the big kidney and other terrain. Ben Hatchell was one of those young rippers. Ben was super grom who would show up and slay. Soon enough he was getting flow from Plug skateboards and now is on Powell wood and Bones wheels. recently Ben took a win at the amateur vert comp at summer x. Watch what Ben can do for yourself. Apparently the relocation a few years back to Texas has treated this young buck right.
Speaking of Vans it's no secret that A.V.E. has his onw clothign line rolling out through the original since '66. Now, you can check it out at the micro site vans pulled together. Check the clean and stylish AV Apparel line right here

- Willy Wonka
Looks like I spoke to soon about hopefully updating twice today. Somebody out there remind me it's been what, 10 years since Birdhouse came out with their mini epic 'The End'? I remember watching that seeing Tony and company raise hell and actually make a skate film. Part Peralta narrative, part 'Whiskey' reckless abandonment the movie was fun as hell. Now, a long ways down the road they are preparing to drop 'The Beginning'. Watch the trailer and mark your calendar.
What's the over under on Ragdoll and Matt Ball filling in for Klein and Kirchart gap? Hopefully the former makes an appearance just to drive a van around on fire.
Hopefully this won't be the only thing I post today. Damn the working man!

Who can't remember the first time you heard 'London Calling' from beginning to end. The tracks were painfully good with the soul of revolution rock packed in by the pound. Later years saw his group Joe Strummer and the Mesacaleros gain steam. Their final work he released: 'Streetcore' was his best work since the Clash. Lucky for you and I there appears to be a Joe Strummer blitzkrieg coming our way five years after his untimely passing.
Fender has commissioned Sheperd Fairy of Obey to do the graphics for the re-issued Joe Strummer fender:
Finally, a new documentary is screaming in your general direction. Going through years of Archival footage 'The Future is Unwritten' captures "who and what" of Joe Strummer: a punk rock warlord.

Etnies GvR of Surf
The goofy versus regular contest jumps into the wide wide world of surfing. "October 19-21, 2007 at the Pier in Oceanside, California. The etnies GvR of Surf brings together the best professional surfers in the world aligned by stance, Goofy foot (right foot forward) and Regular foot (left foot forward), to battle and reveal which stance is supreme. Team Goofy has appointed Chris Coté, editor of Transworld Surf, as their captain, while the Regulars appointed Surfing’s editor-in-chief, Evan Slater." I have odds on Cote' subbing in and going for his glory run. Maybe. I don't know I just made that up. But GvR of surf is real. Check out etniessurf.com for more details
Wall Street Still Loves Zumiez
I see the future and it will be a big box retail battle to the death between Zumiez, Pac Sun and Hollister. Of course I am just talking out of my ass. Sort of. While the rest of the economy is in the shitter kids still Love them some clothes. Hell, if you listen to piper jaffray analyst fashion make sup about 44% of a teens annual budget. for the record I am defining "budget" as the amount of money a teen spends inside a full year. I highly doubt teens are crunching numbers in quicken trying to diversify their earnings from hourly wages at Coffee Bean or Starbucks. But, I digress. Guess what category isn't suffering as much? You got it, teen retail.
As a matter of fact Zumiez apparently killed it in Q2 and are often not just meeting but beating earnings. The industry is well aware of Zumiez 100K earning parties where employees get shipped to Colorado for some snow shredding but the end game as clearly pointed out in this article by Investors.com is this: when they have room to grow, who can beat them right now?
Pac Sun Bangs the War Drum
Well for one, how about the awesome buying power of Pac Sun. CEO Sally Frame Kasaks dropped the hammer in this O.C. Metro article recently: “We all talk about ‘the industry’ with an enormous sense of pride,” Kasaks says. “I say, ‘Guys, put away your surfboards and get to work. I think there’s a lot to be done.’” Kasaks has set her sights on Hollister and company. Let Zumiez have the core brands. Let Zumiez chomp away at the niche. Her direction appears to be saying We are going for the throat of Middle America. The articles author Tiffany Montgomery packs lots of insight into two fairly short segments. For a more well rounded and informed opinion FROM Ms. Montgomery (rather than my ramblings) check out shop-eat-surf.com.
DVS East Coast Infection Tour
The DVS crew is in full swing demo mode cruising through the East Coast right now. If you are a fan of darn fin skateboarding that makes you happy like a hot fudge sundae or if you dig the styles of Daewon, Chico, Zered, Berra, Guru, Jimmy, and Joe Took etc ...You might want to partake in this fine fine event. If you have no idea who those people are then you might want to really go so you can see skating the likes of which you won't likely see again anytime soon. Check the official site for tour dates, a stellar map of shops where the team will be appearing, photos and video.
DVS East Coast Infection Tour
A little known fact about our good friend iTunes: almost every major skate company posts a podcast on there. Pretty funny right? Well, I've been combing through some of the better ones and let me tell you there is a ton of great video on there. A few trailers, commericals and the like. But, occasionally we find some nuggets. So if you are looking for stuff to download here's where you can get your free podcast.

Now I’m Pretty sure Guns n’ Roses mini epic ‘November Rain’ clocked in a few records. The first and most well known is that the song was the longest to ever crack the billboard top ten. Dropping in second as a nice fun fact is that Nike SB is going to be releasing a mid called, guess what? The November Rain.
Now all the GnR heads out there will know that there is a widespread belief in the GnR rock trilogy. ‘November Rain’, ‘Don’t Cry’ and ‘Estranged’ were seen as the beginning, the middle and end of some larger abstract tale. I hear Nike SB is releasing some kind of rock n roll pack but this would have been an interesting twist: to do a ‘Use Your Illusion’ pack with ‘November Rain’ mid, a ‘Don’t Cry’ SB classic and an ‘Estranged’ dunk high.
Maybe they could have snuck in a ‘Nightrain’ SB dunk as a tip of the rocker hat to ’Appetite for Destruction.’ Scratch that they should have just focused on ‘Appetite for Destruction’. The ‘Use Your Illusion’ albums were kind of a let down.
No word on a release date yet for the GnR SB’s but we will keep you up to date. In the meantime you can chuckle over the 'November Rain' music video. Hands down the best part is the guy diving through the wedding cake. I mean, OK you don't want to get caught in the rain. we are in the month of November and you might catch a cold and all that but really... is that necessary? Is there somebody in the background spraying the crowd with a machine gun? Do you have to find cover that bad? I mean, c'mon really? You have to dive through the cake? OK, if you want to rock out A-Team style that's your deal
Now if you love under a rock you might have missed that Globe Shoes is dropping their ‘United by Fate’ short film series online. The series kicked off with stellar segments and a spotlight on Paul Machnau. This past Friday UBF series was back and this time the focus falling on none other than Chris Haslam. I hear lots of mixed opinions on Chris almost daily. Isn’t amazing how nobody has ever met the pro but feels like they know him?
People talk about his fresh to hesh conversion or the fact that he and former pro Surfer Donavan Frankenreiter appear to be locked in a facial hair combat duel to the death. But, most of the comments all come back to his effortless style and ability to make a skateboard work it’s inherent magic under his feet. United by Fate goes from raw, grainy filming to real tight technical high end shots. Check it:
There’s an amazing, yet brief, segment with Mumford, Duncomb and Shane Cross. The brief interlude ends up being a nice tribute to Shane Cross who passed away earlier this year. The segment doesn’t distract at all from Haz’s focus and really rounds out Episode Two. Globe offers up some great behind the scenes photos form the filming of episode two. You can see the cast of skaters and the crew busting tail and goofing around. Check out the pictures when you get a chance. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen Chris Haslam with a Banana Slug on a stick.
On top of the stellar movie release Globe is dropping Haslam’s first pro shoe with the company. Oddly enough I received this in my mailbox last nigh in response to yesterdays post:
Can you give us a shirt/shoe of the week recommendation? Since your looking at all the stuff it would be cool if you would highlight one or two of the cool pieces so i don't have to think and can just focus on buying.
So since this is my blog and I’m going to give you what you want here it is... the first ever shoe of the week is the Globe Sabaton. Globe dropped a pretty cool spot with Haz skating to promote the sabaton. Watch the whole :30 seconds and you can catch a glimpse of the product towards the end. Check it:
The Sabaton comes with everything you’d expect from a good shoe in this day and age of high tech vulcanized goodness. The list starts with the reinforced toe cap, a shock absorbing foot liner and a unique twist in overall design round out a few of the features. Globe definitely stepped up the game with the Sabaton and it’ll be interesting to see if it catches on. Nice work by them and Mr.Haslam
That’s it for today but the week is just getting started so now. Watch United By Fate Episode two and then go skate.

The Vans Invitational
This weekend, proving it's better to buy in than sell out, Vans is hosting the Action Sports Tour up in Portland. Now, this is probably one of the more anticipated stops for a few reasons. First up: it's in Portland. Let's be honest they have more public skate parks than almost all of the East Coast. I wish that was an exaggeration but it's not. I've done the math. Check out Concrete Disciples for yourself. Second, Vans is hosting. C'mon who hasn't owned a pair of Vans in their life? Actually, and lets be serious now, when an action sports brand is involved we all feel a little bit better about why we are there. Wouldn't you say? So, if you are in Portland check out the Vans Invitational or as my not-so-english-savvy Ukrainian friend says: "make quick with the skateboard, most important." Hows that for a non-sequitor?As for results from the Vans invitational. Shaun White qualified first in vert with PLG and Andy Mac rounding out the top three. On the park course Lutzka dethroned Sheckler and sent him down to the number two spot. Skating into third in was Fabrizio Santos. Jereme Rogers and P-Rod didn't qualify for finals. Not that it matters to them too much. I'm sure their Plan B contracts have more of a show up and get it donelause than a show up and win. On a side note it's nice to see Lutzka pull the win after getting a little bit jobbed at the X Games. That Wisconsin boy has come a long way and appears to be progressing. Hopefully we'll see good things from him in 'United By Fate'. More about that on Sunday though.
On the BMX side Jamie Bestwick continues to dominate vert and 16 year old Dennis Elarson came out to win BMX dirt. The crew at BNQT.com had a filmer on site. Check out his footage from the BMX Dirt prelims
The list of skaters who have killed it as snowboarders is long Cardiel, Danny Way, etc and on the flip side the list of snowboarders who skate is equally long: MFM, Jeremy Jones, etc. So when Vans dropped their new snow site it was certainly worth looking into. Check out VansSnow.com for all of their 2007/2008 details.
The addition of the news feed this year is nice to provide a sense of riders accomplishments, whats going on and what's coming up next. Vans had a nice congrats note to team rider Hana Beaman on grabbing the cover of TW Snow. Things like that go a real long way. In addition there is plenty of media to download and get myspace-facebook page a rockin'.
I think this is their best effort yet on the web. A nice built in video player has some rad highlights of the Vans Cup and the product line up for '08 is really easy to navigate. The best thing is that the site gives you options on how to view and purchase the different products online. Now, I say review online and get your shopping done where it makes the most sense. But, as always, support your local skate and ride shops. Check out the site at VansSnow.com. You won't be disappointed.

"It's a small appendage but it owns every spot"
EA is cranking up the hype machine for their new game 'Skate' and pulling no punches. Some go as far to hail it as the next evolution of skateboarding and video games. In reality, to most skaters, video games are nothing more than a diversion to keep us from actually stepping outside and skating. But, if you consider you life work skateboarding and you office is where urethane meets pavement then this might be just the thing for you. I mean, all work and no play applies to skating as much as anything else right?
Thus, with the hype in full tilt it's fun to watch the commercials. Watch this latest drop starring Danny Way, Rob Dyrdek, TK, John Rattray and a host of others.
The videos will be making the rounds with Dyrdek and Mike Carroll's dropping soon enough. Backing the videos up are a few print ads that have their own level of funny going on. Check out Danny's print ad below.

DC's Moto Team Works Pack
Finally, continuing to support action sports of all shapes and flavors, DC Shoes gets back into the custom pack game with their inaugural 2007 Moto Team Works collection. A first for DC they step it up by dropping customized shoes with four of their moto team riders. As we all know DC doesn't slouch on talent and you can find some heavy hitters in here. Check the release notes.
DC is proud to present its first-ever DC Moto TeamWorks collection, a personality-based footwear collaboration built to honor four of DC’s elite motocross athletes. DC Team Riders Travis Pastrana, Ricky Carmichael, Jeremy McGrath and Nate Adams each worked with DC in the creation of their own customized TeamWorks collection pack that include a pair of shoes, T-shirt and hat. The riders were involved in all aspects of the design process by handpicking the shoe model, patterns, designs, materials, colors and details to suit their individual styles.
Looking at the collection in brief, Jeremy McGrath doesn't stray to far from the moto roots with a boot and Travis keeps his classic Suzuki yellow present and interestingly enough drops in the Subaru blue. Very nice indeed.

Another summer season heads into the archives and another Oregon Trifecta in the books. I'm still not 100% sure who walked away with this jam at Tobin's but all signs point to Benji Galloway. Which leaves not much more to be said about the Trifecta. One can look over the photos, wait for footage to be released and wonder: "how come I can't party with Rune and Jake?
Well, if you remember any of these photos being taken... clearly next time more cocktails are in order.
Heading into the Tim Brauch Memorial here is where we stand with the pro bowl standings:
1 Benji Gallaway
2 Rune Glifberg
3 Morgan Burgess
4 Jimmy The Greek
5 Sergie Ventura
6 Will Powers
7 Josh Sandoval
8 Steve Reeves
9 Tim Johnson
10 Packy Marrara
"Tim's interpretation of me is that I lift weights in a Rolls Royce while sipping a glass of burgandy" - Reese Forbes
I swear we don't have a chubby for Tim O'conner or all things East Coast. No, it's not that at all. What we do have is a deep admiration for anybody who goes out into the world and speaks their mind. 48Blocks.com drops a solid interview with Tim O'Connor. Many thanks to from Skatedaily.net for the heads up.
You get a little insight into the glory days of the Brooklyn Banks, his time on Element and what is next for Tim. Definitely worth the read.
Speaking of 48Blocks.com... Check out Palace 5ive
I really like nothing more than finding a good skate site. It's damn hard work these days to discover new and interesting things online. But, the bottom line is they exist . The discovery process just takes a little extra effort. The surprise of the week was getting turned onto 48Blocks.com. It's been sitting there waiting in my inbox but it took a busted ankle for me to catch up on e-mail and find this gem.
The high point was finding the D.C. report published on their site. Across the board there's a nice detailed photo blog. Including a few photos of a newer shop to set up downtown Palace 5ive. Skaters in the D.C. - Maryland - Virginia area know the first venture launched by this group: Elite Board shop. Elite opened their doors a few years back and skaters finally got a solid local shop rolling w/o having to step to NYC or Philly. Now they've expanded to downtown D.C. with Palace 5ive and we expect more really good things. Greg who runs the show is on top of the game locally and we're lucky to have him around. Check out the 48 Blocks DC report and make sure you check out Palace 5ive in D.C.
Palace 5ive Photos Courtesy 48blocks.com
We've been hearing about it for months and yet I've seen zippy on the footage side until last night. Surfing around the old web. I stumble don the trailer for the new MTV series 'The Life of Ryan Sheckler'. The Etnies-Volcom-Plan B wunderkind has his series rolling out on August 27th. Rather than attempt to shock the Hot Topic crowd ala' Bam margera or just be Felix and Oscar Odd Couple Funny ala' Rob and Big, no this series goes a different route. Have you ever seen the MTV crap fest 'Laguna Beach' or the spin off crapfest 'The Hills'? Well, the Sheckster is getting the same treatment. Now you can watch the official trailer for 'The Life of Ryan Sheckler'
Red Bull's Manny Mania
You Have to love Red Bull for throwing down these contests. True street feel. Top notch pros all in all a big thumbs up for bringing a skate comp to areas that don't typically get it. I've selected a couple of my favorite shots from the competition.
Check 'em and pray this comp comes back in 2008.
Somebody done gone and got themselves a redesign! check it out from the SD.net guys. Looks good and the site continues to deliver skateboard related news daily. Top notch all around. Visit Skatedaily every damn day. I do.

June: Two slipped disc in the lower back. S1 and L5 to be exact. If two more would have gone out my battleship would have been sunk.
July: I made it through July without a major or minor injury but then two consecutive weekends of skating put me right back where I am most familiar ... on my ass. After getting hung up on some fine fed stone pool coping I was pitched to flat twice in one weekend. The following weekend a backside ollie to disaster on a tombstone gone awry left me with a nice hipper.
August: Oh, sweet sweet August. I thought you were my saving grace. Alas, another stupid accident had mu popping my ankle out.
So for the record: bad back, wrecked hips and my ankle is ga-danked.
Hooray for summer!

So, the Trifecta got rained out and everything shifted over to Tobin's garage. I'm not quite sure what happened with Run but he ended up not winning this one. Anyway, the one-two-three went to: Benji Galloway, Screech and Morgan Burgess. By the way, Morgan is 12 and kills it.
Real x Kaws
Odds are unless you were awake and had your stealthy shopping boots on you missed this deck that went up this weekend. Granted you should be able to buy it over-priced on ebay any second now.
OK, it's nice it's cool looking and if you are into skart this is just your thing. The flip side being will you ever skate it? Skateboards are meant to be skated. Leaving something on your wall, eh? what's the point? Take a picture get the lithograph. But, for gods sake...skate this stuff. Don't collect it.

Well the term unintentionally funny can't get more dead on than this...
All I can say is that Jake has handled this with a tremendous amount of class. From Burnquist's little spazz fest to ESPN's glorious exploitation of the crash to going on National TV and putting up with Larry King.
Back to the Banks
Going back to one of the original spots that put the East Coast on the is what this weekend is all about up in New York. This weekend 5Boro Skateboards, Volcom, Emerica, Independent trucks and Red Bull bring you Back to the Banks. If you've never made a pilgrimage to the Brooklyn Banks this would be the weekend to go. You will be guaranteed some amazing skating that's coming out pretty damn raw. I can't imagine too much Hollywood prefabricated stuff being toted down to this event. New Yorkers have done a great job of keeping the Brooklyn Banks alive as a spot for skaters to come from whereever and enjoy. Like the Pro-tec Pool Party this is an event that must be witnessed with your own eyes to fully appreciate it.
24 hours later, and depending how hard you party, pull your best Jack Bauer maneuvers and you'll find yourself smack in the middle of Red Bull's Manny Mania. As the fine folks at Red Bull have to say:
Taking place underneath the Manhattan Bridge at Coleman Park, Manny Mania will be thumping with New York’s energy and a custom-built manny feature that includes a giant hip and a multi-layered pad. The jam format of the Contest allows skaters to session like they would with their friends – no pressure, just fun. This isn’t just another Sunday in the park though – on August 12th skaters have the chance to walk away with a giant payout and a jewel-encrusted pimp cup. The Contest will be free to the public, starting at 3pm EST and will be webcast live at mannymania.411vm.com
Check http://www.redbullmannymania.com/ for the results from all the Manny Mania stops, videos, and more. Now, this is no joke check out this list of heavy hitters from the Invite List:
Kenny Anderson, Zered Bassett, Brandon Biebel, Chico Brenes, Joey Brezinski, Ronnie Creager , Devine Calloway, Daniel Castillo, Nick Dompierre, Kerry Getz, Chris Haslam, Chris Roberts, Danny Supa and Brian Wenning.

Ways to Work in Sports ... and it's not Blogging.
Over at ESPN.com and ripped from the pages of ESPN the magazine is feature called 'These seven found a way to work in sports.' Sure, you have the NASCAR artist and the "Cheer coordinator" but the coolest gig in my book is held by Chris Doyle Senior Product Development Specialist for Burton Snowboards. He's the guy who cobbled together their speed zone lacing. While he isn't making the crazy dollars like the cheer coordinator a nice gig in Burlington, free lift tickets and being at the forefront of snowboarding innovation all have to be pretty rewarding.
Ahhhh People Can Be Idiots
Seriously, I mean Really. I mean. Come ON! a Skateboarding rooster. It's that slow a news day that you are covering a story on a skateboarding rooster. OK, here's the deal the reporter, the news director...all should be docked one days pay for this. I can't believe somebody actually did this. OK, you doubt me read all about the exploits of Tony Chickenhawk. While you read I'm going to pretend this never happened.
"Beavers are on the attack in central Sweden. A grandmother who was bathing with her daughter and grandchildren is the latest victim of the semi-aquatic rodents, according to Nerikes Allehanda. "
* Mental Note: never bath with Beavers and never try to wash your mongoose in Baltimore.
"The paper reports that a marauding beaver bit the woman and beat her with its tail before she was evacuated to a local hospital, according to AFP. One of the children was also attacked, the paper says. "
"AFP reports this is the second time these animals have attacked humans along the Bottenån River. "
Um, stay clear of them? Listen up Kemosabe, if a big ass rodent bites you once when you get too close to it...odds are...it will happen again. It's a f*cking giant swimming rat. Humans are a bit higher up on the food chain. I'm not pro-beaver except in a Playboy Mansion sort of way but you can't be this dumb. I thought Swedes were the smarty-pants Scandinavians with their high cost but excellent living.
"Leif Linder, a park ranger, says the beavers are very territorial. He says they've shot four beavers and plan to blow up their lodge. "
"Wow, that escalated quickly"
-Ron Burgundy, Anchorman
"But if you're in the water and see a beaver you should watch out. In the water they see you as their enemy and will attack," Linder tells The Local.
Same thing happened to a guy in a Bar once...I have video proof...

One thing we've always counted on are the fine people at Thrasher. Like the magazine itself it's ringmaster has become synonymous with skating. He pretty much has the only qualification and editor in chief should have besides the ability to use more than one syllable words. He can do that and he can skate. Bottom line is if you don't skate ...why the f*ck are you in charge of a skating a magazine? That doesn't make sense. Anyways, that guy is Jake Phelps and that magazine is Thrasher. I was reminded of this nice little set up when I was reading my good man Captain "Drive fast, Make bad decisions" Action's blog over at BNQT aka "Banquet". I like the Bnqt.com guys much like Thrasher they'd done a good job of bringing in real world participants who actually sit down and translate their experiences from boards and bikes into the written word.
OK, I'm jamming like the song is 'Free Bird' let me pull this one back in before somebody goes hockey-temper-hippy-killer on my ass. Anyway, Captain Action gave the heads up on Phelper's "Top Five" over on CrailTap.com. Always a favorite little segment on the "Tap" The World Famous Fives tend to grab skatings best, brightest and more importantly...whoever is around at the time. Included in Phelps of his Top Five, aside from a stellar list of Cardiel slams, was a "Top 5 where did they go?" amongst the gone but not forgotten was Kyle Kimberling a skater and now BNQT.com editor. The good Captain sums it up better than I can in his latest entry:
"I'm sure Jake thinks that Kyle fell off the face of the earth, got really into heroin and started prostituting himself out for money. This is actually not far from the truth. Former Santa Cruz pro Kyle Kimberling is Banquet's full time editor/encoder/all around button pusher and captain of both the Banquet Skate Team and the Banquet Afternoon Beer Guzzling Squad for which he has achieved all-american status."
Well, It's good to see Kyle still achieving with the best and the brightest. Miles of style and damn fine editor plus his trick tip on impossibles is well worth watching. The BNQT guys posted up plenty of video of Kyle from skating to interviews. It's well worth the watch.
Bottom Line: Enjoy Thursday. Go read the famous fives, Have fun skating and Kyle Kimberling is alive and ripping in Pasadena.
Straight outta California, a hundred miles and skating hard you have the nice fresh fellows from Concrete Disciples. CD has hands down the best skatepark guide for the United States and Internationally. This guide was built as a labor of love for these guys. In their latest drop BLKPRJKT and MRZ bring you coverage of the X Games. They are about big fans and if you can't figure out that was sarcasm...well, then you're an idiot. not much more I can say there. Anyways catch up with the crew....
